This page is one that only makes sense if you've also read the following pages.

If anyone can figure out exactly why Jim refuses to kick her out and send her home, I'll give them a free sketch. This expires when I upload the next page, because that'll give it away.

Shallow guesses like "he's nice?" don't count even if they are technically correct. I'm looking for the core reason.

Edit: Contest over!

Ummm.... Because she's got machine parts or something? And it will get messed up in the rain?

I assume whatever made that outliney thing in the last page has to do with that. Unless it wasn't actually there and just some sort of gag. I DON'T KNOW.

It was a failed gag.

Number of guesses was not specified soooooo 1 Jim hurt Miwa a long time ago and she uses that to manipulate his feelings and in a weird sense developed affection for him after manipulating him for so long OR 2 Miwa could come from a broken home with abusive (insert family member here) and jim is the only one who knows and she manipulates him through that.
jst56strong 22nd Sep 2011, 12:37 AM edit delete reply
3 Jim killed Miwa’s parents and the people we have seen are robots or holograms and again the guilt thing 4 Miwa lives all alone because Jim either scared off, killed or injured her last boyfriend/ fiancé and now he’s gone and he feels guilty (actually number 4 might be my best guess)

*sigh* Sorry! The reason I believe for Jim's reluctance to through Miwa out is he's worried about the fuzziness of Miwa's lightening strike predictions.

The remark about Miwa was my clearly poor attempt at humor by indirectly referring to Miwa as a "prick" and a potential lightening rod if she ventured out into the storm... but because of your reaction I think I completely missed the mark on this one... *heart felt sigh*

Ahhh, no, he's not worried about Miwa's predictions.

1. the wheels on a cart (wait, that was the answer for page 45. never mind) 2. Jim's father was abusive to Jim's mother and Jim doesn't want to be like his father. 3. he really doesn't want Miwa to be caught in the storm especially when no one is waiting for her at home.

I think 3 is best guess but a little shallow to be allowed.

All of those are wrong, but thanks for playing!

Funny thing, the people who just make one guess tend to guess better than those that make three...

Nope, he'd kick Mary out for being this kind of a bitch, so that can't be it.

Jim comes from a family with absentee parents and doesn't want Miwa to have to be alone? That's about the only guess I've got here.
view 22nd Sep 2011, 2:19 AM edit delete reply
view
Definitely has nothing to do with Jim's family.
Greeb 22nd Sep 2011, 2:21 AM edit delete reply
Medical reason, maybe. Although I can't fathom why her parents would leave if she had such a condition that she couldn't be alone for long periods. It's a plausible explanation though.

Another one is that perhaps the Ricket Rail doesn't work when it's raining, but that wouldn't explain the 'to whom?'. Also, what kind of crappy future tech craps out in the rain?

Although I think I'm on the wrong path altogether. Comic 25 references something from Jim's past about problems living alone. No idea what it could be, but whatever it is, Miwa's probably using it to her advantage.

Ha ha, Miwa is definitely abusing it, but it's none of the things you've guessed.
Donjonkeeper 22nd Sep 2011, 2:37 AM edit delete reply
I'm gonna say Jim is a gentleman even though Miwa's being a bitch. That'S why he won't kick her out, he won't let a girl be in a storm like this.
(notice that I said girl, not lady, because miwa is no lady!)

Anyway I think it falls under the cathegory "he's nice". I would like to see him kick her out though, it would be a huge satisfaction! :)

He's not really that much of a gentleman, actually. There's another reason.
WhiteAier 22nd Sep 2011, 3:32 AM edit delete reply
Well unless I missed something, Miwa isn't really interested in anyone other then Jim. So it isn't like she could be toying with him about going to another man. Not like he'd care either when he clearly says that he's going after Mary, not her.

So here are my guesses;

1) That Miwa literally can't go home. Not because of a transportation issues; but because she can't get inside. Either because her home is literally some kind of mobile surveying device or since she's stupid and forgot the key. So instead of locking her out in the rain, Jim let's her stay.

or

2) She's taunting that she might go to another person's home; I'm particularly meaning Mary; and perhaps do some rumor spreading of some kind. Oh Jim wouldn't let me stay after we did it, excreta excreta

Probably wrong either way but those are my guesses. :D
WhiteAier 22nd Sep 2011, 3:35 AM edit delete reply
Oh oh oh oh

or 3) He or Miwa are literally scared of being in a house (or anywhere) alone or something along that line. Supposing Miwa more then Jim is scared of solitude since we've seen Jim alone a lot.

Just got around to playing your 101 page game too. I rather liked Alex for some reason. xD He's adorable and kind of reminds me of my own boyfriend. Neither the less I can't get endings 2 or 3. D:

1st, the only likable thing about Miwa now is her hairstyle. 2nd, here is my attempt at 3 guesses. 1. he's curious to see if his house does get hit by lightning. 2. since her presentation's in a few days he doesn't want anything to happen that would make her miss it. 3. he realized how serious she was.

Time for my patented shitty guess. Uh, no one's at her house and he still thinks of her as a child? As a child when she was alone in a storm she used to get scared? So I'm saying she is deathly afraid of storms when she is alone either becasue of the storm or because of something that happened in a storm? Lighting will hit there? Jim's a pussy? lol

guess no. 2...

Miwa seems to treat social relations like a game of chess. She has given Jim two alternatives (a fork in chess parlance). He can have an affair with her and have Mary as a "pet" relationship (a possible threesome was suggested) or loose Mary to Miwa's advances (not because Miwa finds her attractive, but because she makes good on her implied threats). Jim can't simple throw the dread schemer out because at the last moment she made Mary a hostage, thus her little laugh as Jim caves!
Denizen 22nd Sep 2011, 4:51 AM edit delete reply
Because he likes and respects her parents and feels obligated to them? I'm probably just grasping at straws.

I'm not good at this kind of conjecture. But it seems to me that when Miwa asked exactly who she was supposed to apologize to, that's when Jim's demeanor changed.

So it's got to have something to do with the idea of an apology, or making amends to the right person. Which to me implies that Miwa is referencing something from Jim's past that he either hasn't apologized for, or can't apologize for because the correct person's no longer around.

Vague, vague, vague. That's all I can gather which seems possible to me. If I had to make a stab at a real guess, I'd say Miwa and Jim have a bit more history than Mary would be happy to know about; maybe even in ways that would warrant an apology. And that's what Miwa's holding over Jim.
Niall 22nd Sep 2011, 11:55 AM edit delete reply
OK, here's what I think:
Everyone's reading Miwa's line "To whom?" as if she's implying that she has no-one to go back to, but what if she's saying "To Whom?" as if to say "And if I go back, you know who I'll be going back to and we both know that's not a good thing.

My guess is that there's someone at Miwa's house that they both know Jim doesn't want Miwa to be around, be it emotionally abusive, unpleasant or otherwise.
Primus0 22nd Sep 2011, 12:08 PM edit delete reply
How old is she, seems like the kind of thing you say parents aren't home and you are locked out. And regardless of your intentions View I like Miwa which explains why my relationships fail.

Maybe she's actually afraid of lightning, and the ricket rail isn't running because of the weather. Her parents are out on the survey.
