Either her shirt (Miwa's) has no straps, or it somehow attaches to her skin?

It's fuckin' magnets. We're not sure how they work.

... Or maybe they work because her collar is the other half of the magnet...

They're what's called "complex face magnets" - the same thing Jim is using for Gretel's joints.

Take a strong magnetic disk, with each side being a pole. However, instead of the face being one magnet with a unified pole, instead make it something else. Like, say, rings as if it were a dart board. Each ring having the opposite alignment.

The strength of the magnet is the same, but because it works against itself, it doesn't produce any significant field effects. And if you held a normal magnetic disk up to it, there would be basically no attraction.

However, if you had another dart-board magnet arranged in the exact opposite manner, it would clamp together very, very tightly when pressed together. More than twice as tightly as if it were an ordinary set of magnets. There's no attraction when they're at range, because the field is muddy. There's no attraction if they're at angles to each other. But if they're nearby and exactly aligned? KONK! Magnet city.

The target board arrangement is, of course, a very rough and early sort of complex face magnet. The ones in Gretel's body are orbs and shells with adaptive faces - they are attracted to about three millimeters apart, but strongly repelled if they get any closer.

These aren't nearly so complicated, and they are very low power. It's roughly the equivalent of having a fridge magnet in your pocket.

Most people don't really use them, although the cooking smock Mary used for about three panels also had them. They're kinda like velcro.

Holy shit. You like, know everything about this universe you created. I mean you have an answer and explanation for everything. That's crazy, in a good way.

I love all the movement of Gretel. How she still can't stay still because of her excitement over her increased flexibility.

It's only been a day or two.

Also, how she's excited at the fact that she can wear clothes now since her new body allows for that without ripping them to shreds.

And the fact that she has a reason to wear them now, what with the adolescent body upgrade.

Holy crap! Miwa in panel 8 looks just like the short girl from Cheer!
