Hansel will have all the women, human or otherwise, when he's an adult. Copping feels, bending fences, he's living the dream.

I'm really curious about this 'war' but most explanations would probably not seem very credible no matter who they came from. I'll just imagine :)

"War" is kind of the wrong word, but this universe presumes a pretty epic catastrophe.
Panda! 22nd Dec 2011, 11:33 PM edit delete reply
I would guess that this "War" took place like 20-30 years ago. Most of the people seem very open about bringing it up.

You did say a while back that most of the population of this world.. not this story that is. Lives in Big Cities not these smaller Geo Front Towns/Farms Towns?
view 22nd Dec 2011, 11:39 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, the bulk of the population lives mostly in very compact city-style spaces.

Quarry, for some reason it was an idea on my mind.
But a man-made tunnel just sounds...simple. lol, I blame mmo's for that. I thought close thinking it would of been more like a foundry but I was off by 1 step in production. Speaking of which, you gonna color that pic? I may do it but its been ages since I have done anything outside of fractal and colorful design.
view 22nd Dec 2011, 1:36 PM edit delete reply
I don't color much.

This really isn't a quarry. Quarries are much bigger and deeper.

It's a sub basement for earthquake reinforcement. From the size of the cranes the Terawatt tower was going to be big. We do this even now for any building in high risk areas.

I gotta say, I'm curious as to how this tower is supposed to be working. Sometimes the ideas behind power generation and other structural machines/buildings can be almost as interesting as the story.

And mostly because stuf like energy and food is so damn important to modern society, that they are inseperable from the story to some degree.

ie. if a story has little food or energy, they'll have many people who are hungry and stuff like that.

argh .... I'm overthinking things again !

A power tower uses many acres of clear plastic suspended about two meters over the ground. The sun heats the air beneath the plastic, and the tower acts as a chimney which draws the hot air through a central (very tall) turbine.

While it isn't very efficient, it's extremely cheap and fosters a very nice "greenhouse" under the plastic area, so it can arguably help the environment. Especially if you're redesigning the ecosystem anyway.

Ah yes, I believe you are thinking of a Solar Updraft Tower.

And yes, it helps cool down the surface area a bit, so the moisture doesn't evaporize as fast. Useful in very hot areas.

Not very powerful though, as you mentioned.
