Look! We're somewhere else!

The first part of the chapter was Mary's playground. The last part is Miwa's.

Special thanks to Sebine, who pinpointed which page was causing the malware freakout. Turns out an image in a comment was hosted on a site that is suspected of "distributing malware". Therefore, the whole page gets a big red flag, because that's obviously for the best. Thanks, Google.

Anyway, Sebine earned a sketch, if they want one.

Aww. I missed all the malware fun. I would have totally freaked out and done sonething stupid too!

Anyway I hate to say it, but I did miss Miwa. If she is in control of the comic, I'm sure the feeling is not mutual.

I received a number of vague "there's some kind of malware thing in your comic", but nobody gave me enough information to figure out what was going on, especially since you only get the warning using a certain browser with certain settings.
JasperWB 5th Feb 2012, 8:53 PM edit delete reply
Ah. Well that would be especially hard to fix. Gotta love electronic tech errors. I find I get significantly less bugs and false positives when I use my computer made of a flashlight taped to an abacus shining light through colored marbles and mancala pieces. It's sturdy but it doesn't like connecting to the network.
Meh.Aloe 6th Feb 2012, 12:35 AM edit delete reply
Those network problems could be solved with the latest 0.001 baud pigeon-based modem!
JasperWB 6th Feb 2012, 1:48 AM edit delete reply
Yeah but I can't afford the CPU (Coop for Pigeons Use) to run it.

Eh. I'm not funny, I know...*sniff*
Meh.Aloe 6th Feb 2012, 2:11 AM edit delete reply
No, no, I thought the "CPU" was great. XD
kill3st 6th Feb 2012, 8:55 AM edit delete reply
I didn't know, because I always read your comic on my phone...

Been meaning to register a long time and say hi - so here it is, been reading a while now and love your work.

Also, an unpopular opinion: I love Miwa
view 5th Feb 2012, 10:59 PM edit delete reply
It's not that she's unpopular, it's that everyone has a strong opinion of her.

Anyway, welcome - but, as a note for other commenters, you don't have to have an account to comment.

We're somewhere else? What witchcraft is this! D:

With that last panel, I'd follow Miwa *anywhere*.

A new present? Hmm... My guess -- "I made you a new brother! He is 16.5% more efficient than your old brother! Now you can forget all about Hans! I'm such a thoughtful friend. :3"

She sucks at robotics...
Meh.Aloe 6th Feb 2012, 12:27 AM edit delete reply
Perhaps she has mastered it since the last time we saw her through sheer willpower and a judicious application of possibly mad SCIENCE!

... Or perhaps the new brother is genetically engineered! Or... ecosystem-ally... engineered... by creating an ecosystem that naturally evolves replacement brothers in very short spans of time. ...It could happen!

why is her shirt so small? isn't she considered a kid? how doesn't that creep people out?
view 6th Feb 2012, 1:12 AM edit delete reply
... she's not wearing a shirt.

I'm trying to make out what Miwa's data pad says in panel 2... Mutation Cases? Militant Apples? Mutant Hatses? All of these seem plausible.
view 6th Feb 2012, 1:12 AM edit delete reply
Mutation rates. The bacteria in the soil have a much faster generation than things like trees and grass, so they mutate much faster.

Also I like Gretel's emotion-light-thingy pattern in that panel... It seems to get the "trying to concentrate" feeling across. I'm also thinking of it as "Neanderthal Mode," though, as it makes her brow appear big and heavy, and the posture and incoherence doesn't help. :P

I wanted to see the blasted thing anyway

I would like a Sketch, if it's not too much trouble

Uhh, tell you what, sketch something freestyle, but having to do with the comic, I don't care what
view 6th Feb 2012, 1:43 AM edit delete reply
You have to give me more direction than that! Like, pick a character or situation or something.
Sebine 6th Feb 2012, 1:47 AM edit delete reply
137 was hilarious xD
Uhh fine, Jim and Mary and something cute.
RandomTroll 6th Feb 2012, 4:34 AM edit delete reply
its a sex toy, for gretel.

I don't know how a sex toy for a robot works, but I will just assume thats whats going to happen.
view 6th Feb 2012, 4:48 AM edit delete reply
Nnnnnno... although it wouldn't be completely out of character.
JasperWB 6th Feb 2012, 5:09 AM edit delete reply
Miwa...we missed you!
Sebine 6th Feb 2012, 5:49 AM edit delete reply
If you wish to miss less often in the future, might I suggest a Barrett M82?
Effective at over a mile.
Never miss again.

Hey man, love the comic, and have been following your work since you posted the first page of the cheerleaders comic onto HF, Far-out man, love the work..

I realy enjoy the detailed characters and the interesting place and such.
I am wondering if in the future, that girl robot might get to act up on that whisper of curiousity.. bwaha.

Dude out.

Miwa's back! (and there's going to be trouble...)
edubs 6th Feb 2012, 7:10 PM edit delete reply
I'm guessing some form of sex toy
ravenor78 6th Feb 2012, 9:47 PM edit delete reply
question view, in what country do you post these comics? cos i'm never awake when you do
view 6th Feb 2012, 9:52 PM edit delete reply
It's erratic. There's gonna be one in about an hour and a half, I think.
cattservant 8th Feb 2012, 5:57 PM edit delete reply
And, perhaps, erotic too...
Lorxus 6th May 2014, 5:00 AM edit delete reply
I really wish you'd posted another completely unnecessary but utterly delightful commentary on future tech, particularly why it indeed is that soil biology is where an ecologist expresses herself.
view 6th May 2014, 8:17 PM edit delete reply
Well, I thought it was obvious. :D
