Speaking of that... Given that Nowheresville is isolated and mostly self sufficient, it seems to have a very high level technology. What is their manufacturing capability based on and where do they get their raw materials from? (The remains of nearby pre-disaster towns perhaps?)

They scavenged everything for hundreds of miles. However, the technology is also significantly more advanced, so they can do much more with much less.
