Maybe i'm just a stupid, but what would have cost her a week?
view 15th Feb 2012, 9:40 PM edit delete reply
Her brother lost three years when he was reset. She had been refactored less than a week before, so she would have only lost a few days.

... I guess that it wasn't as clear as I thought.

I think it's just harder to keep it all in mind due to Web Comic Time -- reading through the comic all at once, it would make sense, I think.

I wasn't confused, but possibly that's because I remembered comments made on previous pages about the whole incident (esp. the one where you actually said that we'll see Gretel really does wish that it was her that got smooshed by that crane).

Anywho, I think there's nothing wrong with not everything being instantly obvious and 100% clear in a work of fiction -- I much prefer works where I sometimes have to put the book down and think for a moment to try to figure out what the characters are talking about, rather than one that spoon-feeds everything. :P Much less room for mystery and atmosphere and drama and subtle, yet awesome character building in the latter case. After all, Gretel isn't going to take a pause from her crying to explain to Miwa exactly what she means... And her behaviour is much more natural the way it is now.

When Hansel was damaged he Reset and lost the last three years of his memories. Gretel just got her new teenage body a week or so ago so if it were her she would have only lost a weeks time. Also she feels very guilty about her brothers accident. See: #180 - #184 plus #192 - #195 <as always, Master view is too fast for me!>

Yes! Miwa's better angels shine through. I'm so proud of her! Thank you Oh Master view for the immediate answer to my last question! A picture is worth a thousand words...
view 15th Feb 2012, 9:40 PM edit delete reply
No worries, I'll make her less heroic in a few pages. She's so gentle and kind, hahahahaha...
cattservant 15th Feb 2012, 10:05 PM edit delete reply
I'll bet Gretel's "'re really screwed." (#225 panel 4) comment is going to shift Miwa into high gear right soon!
Meh.Aloe 15th Feb 2012, 10:47 PM edit delete reply
So I'm imagining that as soon as Gretel leaves, Miwa is going to find someone else to rant to about how everyone in town is stupid compared to her... :P

<3 Miwa. Maybe deep inside she's not as kind and gentle as she seems, but she's still a good person. :)

... I think. I mean, maybe she goes full-out evil Mad Scientist in a few pages, and the last page of the comic is an evil eco-system of sapient plants tearing the village apart with Miwa laughing maniacally at it all. O_o

... Which would still be awesome.
cattservant 15th Feb 2012, 10:51 PM edit delete reply
Or maybe a full out battle with Mary's Octopi versus Miwa's Triffids with Jim as the prize?!
Meh.Aloe 15th Feb 2012, 10:55 PM edit delete reply
I think we can all agree that's the only fair way to settle this love triangle.
cattservant 15th Feb 2012, 11:28 PM edit delete reply
I wonder which side the land-walkers would take?
JasperWB 15th Feb 2012, 10:07 PM edit delete reply
I relate to Gretel here. It's not fun to have the reverse Midas touch. At least she has Miwa, for now..
cattservant 15th Feb 2012, 10:18 PM edit delete reply
She is being very teenage human right now. Definitely seeing the world through a Gretel colored lens...

I forgot that siblings dying falls under teen angst. If her parents went too maybe it would mean something.
Meh.Aloe 15th Feb 2012, 10:54 PM edit delete reply
Her parents are a computerized super-hacker and an upgraded military drone! They're invincibleee
JasperWB 16th Feb 2012, 12:26 AM edit delete reply
Everything dies. That's life. It's a bitch day after day after day then your mechanical heart's gears seize up and you die alone in bed, foaming hydraulic fluid at your artificial mouth as your CPU overheats and fries your circuits into a black, flakey powder!!

Ehem. Excuse me...

I'm leaving this comment just to show that I'm paying attention!

... I don't really have anything interesting to say, though.
JasperWB 16th Feb 2012, 1:29 AM edit delete reply
Aww. That's all you had to say! You're kind people.
duLapel 15th Feb 2012, 10:14 PM edit delete reply
Guilt and remorse are the stuff that make angsty teens...

Miwa did the correct thing... thank the gods... Otherwise Gretel might start wearing black leather and lineman boots, and answer flippantly, "What ever!"
cattservant 15th Feb 2012, 10:22 PM edit delete reply
Sir duLapel: Hail O Wise One! When you win another Sketch, that would be something to see... <and would she have piercings, or rather, spot weldings?>

<that does stir the old software emulations a bit>
Meh.Aloe 15th Feb 2012, 10:48 PM edit delete reply
Miwa is incapable of doing anything other than the exact right thing in every possible situation. -_-

... Except in matters of the heeeart
cattservant 15th Feb 2012, 10:57 PM edit delete reply
Meh.Aloe: Be careful, Miwa knows what is happening on this side of the Fourth Wall too!

<quote: Life's never fair, but you don't have to suffer alone> so true but also so hard to do. I talk from personnal experience...

Keep up the good work view, I've rarely read a comic so well constructed!

You know, I don't care what anyone says, I like Miwa.
cattservant 16th Feb 2012, 6:27 PM edit delete reply
Oh My! She's gotten to another one!
view 16th Feb 2012, 7:09 PM edit delete reply
I permit it! It is hereby permitted for people to like Miwa.
cattservant 16th Feb 2012, 7:51 PM edit delete reply
Hooray! Master view A proposal of a theme song for Miwa: "I feel pretty / Oh so pretty / I feel pretty, and witty and bright / And I pity / Any girl who isn't me tonight..." !!!
view 16th Feb 2012, 7:54 PM edit delete reply
Unfortunately, it's mostly "Girlfriend" by Avril Lavigne.
JasperWB 16th Feb 2012, 8:38 PM edit delete reply
I could imagine Miwa rocking out to that song. Nude of course.
ravenor78 16th Feb 2012, 9:35 PM edit delete reply
so while i'm here loving mary everyone else is loving miwa? i feel so very alone... and probably mary too
view 16th Feb 2012, 10:32 PM edit delete reply
Nah, Mary's the default. The people who like Miwa are loud about it because it's pretty rare.
cattservant 17th Feb 2012, 12:18 AM edit delete reply
Yep, That song is a much better fit.
█████ 15th Feb 2016, 8:43 AM edit delete reply
Oh! The three years thing was an actual number.
I thought it was just an estimate of what could've been lost.

Eesh. Poor guy.
Poor girl.
