Hmmm. Awkwarrrrd arrrrrrm!

I have no idea whether it's clear that the stuff in the background is the grass outside. I really need to work on backgrounds...

Just looked twice, and unfortunately it doesn't look like grass. But grass is a pain to draw. You really have to get every blade in there sometimes.

Well, I'm not pressed for time for once, maybe I'll go back and put in a ton of little black lines...

EDIT: Okay, I added a ton of little black lines. I hope it's more grass-like now.

By previous reference, you've established the scene outside as lawn with patches of woods... Too much detail would bring the background forward and take away from the action taking place.

As to expending your valuable time drawing individual blades... I would rather you put it to your characters... that is unless you find it therapeutic. Photoshop or some similar application (which I assume you are using) gives you the freedom of preparing a generic "field-o-grass" that you can cut and paste from... It's not cheating... It's resource management!

By the way, I love the characterizations... Mary saying "I'm a whole different person now, idiot!" was clearly a code for "I'm a WOMAN NOW; you should have noticed!" Plus her own uncertainty about her attractiveness (the bane of many young women) is wonderfully mixed in with her infatuation with Jim. NICE WRITING...

You may have plotted this as just a sci-fi romance, but the richness in characterization and background has the potential for a series. Now all you need is a MacGuffin. ^_^

You're my favorite commenter, duLapel! When this whole thing is done, you have to promise to read it again and see how perfect your guesses are!

@kill3est, I'm glad you noticed!
