Good Afternoon view! Please do take a break and re-magnetize your carpals! Thanks for the rapid update too. <oh, and 'kof kof'... secundus>
cattservant 25th Feb 2012, 9:42 PM edit delete reply
See! Just like I said, Miwa is making the trains run on time! Also, I shouldn't have doubted that she was in on Operation Recovery. Oddly enough, Mary and Miwa were using quite similar counseling techniques. (#234 panel 3 and #227 panel 6) Go figure...
JasperWB 25th Feb 2012, 9:48 PM edit delete reply
I have to admit, I like her shameless forceful and flirty ways. She'd win me over that way if I were Jim.
cattservant 25th Feb 2012, 9:53 PM edit delete reply
JasperWB Good Morning! Yeah, Mary needs to up the ante if she's going play poker with Miwa!
Meh.Aloe 25th Feb 2012, 10:24 PM edit delete reply
Oooh, I hope we get to see the conversation between Gretel and Hansel on that Ricketcar. :D

How is Jim still resisting Miwa? D: He has super-human willpower.
view 25th Feb 2012, 10:26 PM edit delete reply
Well, he's one of the guys who put her back together when she was twelve. She's just a kid to him.
cattservant 25th Feb 2012, 10:34 PM edit delete reply
view: Were Miwa and her parents already living in Nowheresville when Jim and Company arrived?
cattservant 25th Feb 2012, 10:31 PM edit delete reply
Meh.Aloe Good Morning! I think it has something <in part> to do with Jim being a mathematical genius.
pancake 25th Feb 2012, 10:31 PM edit delete reply
I'm not sure why, but i can't understand what's going on..
cattservant 25th Feb 2012, 10:35 PM edit delete reply
A cup of coffee might help... (or some maple syrup!)
view 25th Feb 2012, 10:43 PM edit delete reply
Ahh, is it too subtle again? Blah...
cattservant 25th Feb 2012, 10:47 PM edit delete reply
No, Its not! Subtle makes our teeny-tiny minds expand and produce more oil. (a good thing!)

Edit: "teeny-tiny" is a too vague reference to page #059 panel 6 and further speculation in the Comments that Carol had gone to Boulder to obtain a tank car load of Teeny-Tiny brand nut oil for Nowheresville's industrial use. <No negative connotations of any kind intended and/or implied.>

That's not really for you to say, it's for Pancake to decide.
cattservant 25th Feb 2012, 11:02 PM edit delete reply
It's hard enough just to speak for myself. But I do see your point.
Archduke 25th Feb 2012, 11:03 PM edit delete reply
Gawd, Cat, let the pancake decide! Sheesh...

Edit: I just lost my CF ninja-virginity. How rough it was, I feel violated.
JasperWB 25th Feb 2012, 11:11 PM edit delete reply
It took me a moment to figure it out as well, but then I saw he was suddenly up against a tree and he wasn't before so I got what the action between panels was.
pancake 26th Feb 2012, 6:57 AM edit delete reply
oh! now i get it! i didn't notice the tree. thanks, jasper!

and i know i don't post much, but i visit regularly. i just don't like to post if i don't have something important/funny/good to say.
JasperWB 26th Feb 2012, 9:25 AM edit delete reply
I was useful? Here? Well you're welcome!

But yeah, until you see the tree I just figure he was trying to avoid her stepping on his blue suede shoes.
cattservant 25th Feb 2012, 11:31 PM edit delete reply
"Oh Lord, Please don't let me be misunderstood." <just a soul whose intentions are good...> Just extolling the virtues of brain exercise. Please forgive me pancake!
view 25th Feb 2012, 11:47 PM edit delete reply
Calm down, Pancake posts maybe once a week, so tossing all this pressure around is no good.
cattservant 25th Feb 2012, 11:54 PM edit delete reply
Not at all excited. Just striving for clarity and absolution... (and humor too) >^OO^< - >^oo^< - >^~~^< zzz
Sheela 26th Feb 2012, 2:44 AM edit delete reply
Quite a lot of trees for a desert area kind of place .. Miwa's been at work there, huh ? :)
view 26th Feb 2012, 2:50 AM edit delete reply
She's on the lake shore, but yeah, that's what she does.
Sheela 26th Feb 2012, 3:05 AM edit delete reply
Oh, I see, plenty of water for the tree's then :)

And is it just me, or is the tree on the left side of the first panel supported by guide wires ?
New tree's perhaps ?
view 26th Feb 2012, 3:09 AM edit delete reply
Not really new, but pretty new trees.
Sheela 26th Feb 2012, 4:41 AM edit delete reply
*eyes the trees*

.... if a robot doggie was to pee on a tree, would it wilt ?
Nurrah 26th Feb 2012, 3:19 AM edit delete reply
Love Jim's face, panel three. :)
view 26th Feb 2012, 3:32 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, it's definitely my favorite expression in a while.
JasperWB 27th Feb 2012, 4:19 AM edit delete reply
You know, Miwa somewhat reminds me of the brown M&M character from the new M&M commercials for an array of reasons. I just felt like tossing that out there for consideration by all. View must either be an advertising consultant or its time to explore legal options.

Haven't seen it.
cattservant 27th Feb 2012, 5:55 AM edit delete reply
There are similarities, however Miwa is very unlikely to melt in anyone's mouth!
Badger 27th Feb 2012, 8:05 AM edit delete reply
Oh, I don't know. with the right coaxing, I'm sure she would.
cattservant 27th Feb 2012, 9:35 AM edit delete reply
I'd wager there's only one man in all of Nowheresville who could pull it off! (And he's a genius.)
tteclod 27th Feb 2012, 1:55 PM edit delete reply

I am somewhat confused by the Hans' and Jim's divergent paths re-converging at or near Miwa's home. If we are to assume that Jim randomly took a nap, met Mary by happenstance, and then walked with Mary toward an appointment with Miwa (or near Miwa), then it would stand to reason that he would take the same route as Hans, and thus the railcar, unless he meant to walk, in which case he and Hans could have walked further together to the point where Gretel catches the railcar. No reasonable explanation is provided why Jim wouldn't spend more time with Mary, nor with Hans, who can clearly use the extra company. Also, Miwa appears to be expecting Jim, who clearly could have arrived by rail, but didn't.

I don't mean to make a big deal out of a small discrepancy, but the whole sequence is really bugging me. Add to that, if Miwa and Jim do not have an appointment, then Miwa must, by default, have accounted for Jim's encounter with Mary in order to predict his arrival. This raises a whole host of problems, including Miwa's
view 27th Feb 2012, 2:21 PM edit delete reply
The answer is that they were around a hundred meters from Miwa's house, so he decided to walk while the others took trains to their distant destinations.

He didn't expect Gretel to be there, or to flag down Hans.

I thought about putting an explanation in the comic, but it seemed very boring when I thought about it again. Basically, I needed Mary and Hans to have a moment away from Jim.
tteclod 28th Feb 2012, 2:35 PM edit delete reply
Got it. Still a speedbump, but I got it.

I would have had him feelup Miwa.
tteclod 27th Feb 2012, 1:59 PM edit delete reply
...predictive capability and Jim's predictability, which seems dependent on far too many intervening events to be predictable, unless Jim is, like Miwa, able to anticipate the moves of others and, unlike Miwa, doesn't allow this to become common knowledge.

Anyway, this is clearly screwing with my head.
cattservant 27th Feb 2012, 2:52 PM edit delete reply
@tteclod Check out the map on the Random Stuff page. It gives a good idea of the local layout and how walking Jim and Ricket-Rail riding Hans could show up at the same time. Also Miwa was expecting Jim at noon. She was looking at her wrist-watch on page #227 panel 6. also per view in the Comments on the same page.
cattservant 27th Feb 2012, 4:22 PM edit delete reply
On thinking about it, what was Hansel doing alone out there in the tall grass (page #228) when Mary and Jim encountered him? Is everybody locatable via some sort of GPS? Also, how are Waverly and Elvis doing?
