Sorry I missed comic yesterday. Here's a comic on my off day to keep things flowing!

I'm thinking about making a desktop background. Any preference?

She got struck twice in the same storm??? Poor girl...

One of the things I kind of gloss over is that weather is whole hell of a lot more severe. Jim was being REALLY STUPID being out there. Miwa, at least, had the excuse of being a dumb kid.

It does however, explain her phobia quite nicely ... and perhaps a clue as to how she figured out how to predict lightning ?

Very nice style.

You would not believe how hard it is to draw silhouettes clearly.

Desktop background: (Page #293 panel 4); should be the book cover too.

Thank you and have a Superior Super Moon Saturday too!

It doesn't really represent the comic very well, though...

To me, it seems that most of the story builds up towards it, but you have the very best understanding of the whole gestalt.

The splash page for Chapter 2 (page #028) is nicely representative.

Hmmm, I was thinking of making something with a lot of white space. Tough decision.

What about a middle distance panorama of Nowheresville and environs with the lake as background?

Hmmm... although it's a good idea, I don't think I can manage to draw that.

Something semi-abstract about the 'gap'?
Sheela 5th May 2012, 7:26 PM edit delete reply
Sheela
How about Jim, with Miwa and Mary on each side of him, with a little gap between all the characters ?

Hm!

Perhaps have an octopus cling to one of Mary's legs. :D

I like that idea a lot. Toss minor characters and the ricket rail in the background too

ying/yang robot/human theme?

I kinda like the ying-yang thing artistically, but for this particular comic I think the idea of showing main characters is ideal.

I like the minimalist approach, so I'll have to figure out a good thing that doesn't get too cluttered.

The story is very character driven, so that would make sense.

Offcourse, not knowing how it's going to end, it's hard to say which characters are most important. For all I know, having Hans and Gretel on the cover would be ideal.

Still, so far, it seems to be centered around Jim, Mary and Miwa. sure, there's a good bit of Esteban in there too, but he's not a direct part of that love triangle.

Light/Dark, Mary/Miwa and their elements water/fire

This style conjures up sad and eclectic piano music playing in the background. Is the lightning as hard to draw as it seems it would be, or is that the easy part here?

Also, did Miwa somehow know she was going to be hit again?

That is a very good question. Panel 6; Did he get shocked by a residual charge or did she push him away?

There's clues in the page... I'm sure you can figure it out.

And the lightning is not really that hard to draw.
JasperWB 5th May 2012, 6:37 PM edit delete reply
JasperWB
Ah. There is a glowing or something in the area right before the strike in this severe future weather. Look at that, used my noodle!

Ding!

(Although it may very well be something only Miwa can see, as you'll see shortly.)
JasperWB 5th May 2012, 7:14 PM edit delete reply
JasperWB
Ah. Something done to her by the first strike perhaps? At first I thought the rain just heavily picked up before the strike but then..well that doesn't happen in mid air.

Ahhh yes, I see it now. The visual hint.

Panel 2-3, and again in 5-7. Miwa's Lightning sense is tingling! But how far in advance can she predict them to be?

I had previously thought it to be something more like pure genius that enabled her to predict strikes but it now seems to be more like a super power.

@Phuji:"Only seven hours in advance." (Page #105 panel 8) Of course that is several years after the events of this page.
JasperWB 5th May 2012, 11:19 PM edit delete reply
JasperWB
Indeed. She somehow is able to know where, but she still hasn't mastered the when. Not numbers or Spidy sense can perfect it.

After that is done, all she needs is a super..."hero" costume. I still advocate the Playboy bunny outfit to get some use here.
cattservant 5th May 2012, 11:57 PM edit delete reply
cattservant
She is still fine tuning her technique as of pages #123 and #129-130.

I think it's possible that Miwa is able to see the polarity of the electrical charges building up before a strike, which can be cloud to ground or the opposite.

"I'm sure you can figure it out." Arrgh! That's like lining a chicken!

Very well. I think she pushed him away. Which means that the goddess of lightning just gave Miwa a very costly gift!

JasperWB
Yes. View pushed my head down, drew a line in front of me and gently whispered something in my ear. I feel fine though, except for this inexplicable urge to board a plane with an arsenal of weapons and parachute over a list of locations of rival artists and rain down hell in the name of the Holy View.

But I was always like that.

So that white misty stuff just before the lightning strikes, is that an area that's effected by the air heating up before converting into plasma or is it just so we can figure out how miwa predicts the future a bit like how mary senses touch when she closes her eyes?

Well, maybe there will be some clues in the next few pages.
cattservant 6th May 2012, 12:03 AM edit delete reply

It could be charged particles building up to the strike that Miwa is somehow able to sense.

Struck twice. Ouch, that has got to be a record. Lucky for her, Jim is out there.. digging a hole for some reason. I wonder how extent the nerve damage is.

Knowing Jim, he's probably fixing the hole. It is raining!
