Her Father!

Edit: Miwa did push him. She could still think amidst the lightning's fury!
And she can perceive electronic data directly with her mind now. Super powers indeed!

Fooled me! Even hypnotizing my chicken won't help on this one. Maybe one of the young and mentally sufficient Commenteers can get this one.

No, wait! Her maternal grandfather. (?)*

it's her doctor obviously.

also, when did we cross from science fiction into fantasy? super powers, View? i have trust in your story telling and vision, but i would still like your comment on crossing that line.

Consider the character Angela Mitchell in William Gibson's 'Count Zero' and 'Mona Lisa Overdrive'.

It's not magic, as you'll see soon. There's actually a hint on this page, but it'll be a page or two before it's clear.

It's an implant in her eye which Jim is calibrating and slowly activating, hence her field of vision increasing slowly. She can still see electrical interference, like the lightning, but her implant is amplifying that by intercepting the computers data.
cattservant 6th May 2012, 8:55 PM edit delete reply
cattservant
That sounds quite plausible. Are you saying that tapping into the data stream is an unintended side effect of her reconstructive surgery? Possibly they had to replace one or both of her eyes?
view 6th May 2012, 8:57 PM edit delete reply
view
Nothing to do with data streams. But these new, more accurate eyes are definitely making the issue come to light.
JasperWB 6th May 2012, 9:02 PM edit delete reply
JasperWB
So the problem must be in her brain and the implants are amplifying it. I notice she "sees" the data outside of her increasing field of vision, meaning her minds eye is seeing it and not her real eyes, right?

This is a mystery I felt I can solve since it is probably one of the most integral parts of Miwa's character, having to do with her computer like precision on things and probably making electrical storms scary as hell even without the lightning-o-phobia.

Also, I'll admit, I thought if I could get spot on on the problem maybe view would be tossing out a reward sketch. And I miss Carol dammit! Lol

So if Miwa received new eyes when she was a child, then why does she need glasses? Affectation?!
Hmmm...

I was originally of the opinion many many pages ago, that Miwa was a bit of a cyborg. (Lightening strikes can and do cause deep fasciae burns that can be very debilitating.) When she damaged her hand when punching the wall, it was clear it was robotic, though a very very good facially of a human hand.

Now I'm wondering how far the borg-a-fing has gone and exactly when it took place... Is Miwa a 100% robot body prosthetic like the Major in Ghost in the Shell? ...or... Is she a very sophisticated robot! SURPRISE!

Could it be that the shielded closet is a homage to Futurama's Bender
view 6th May 2012, 10:07 PM edit delete reply

No homage, but she's pretty artificial.

The glasses are blinders.

To manage her input levels? Why did Mary take them off of Miwa when she hugged her on pages #289-290? Just to avoid getting poked in the, ah, chest? Or is there some significance?
view 6th May 2012, 10:27 PM edit delete reply

Mary doesn't know anything about Miwa. You just take someone's glasses off before you smash their face into your chest.

They are, only they're used to augment down instead of augment up.

Oh God, now I figured out who I thought her mother resembled. However I'm not sure if it will piss anyone off or not, knowing my brilliant luck. And yet...I mean everyone must be aware of the unorthodox (not meaning bad here) way she looks.

Somewhere, sometime ago, view said in the Comments that the subject of gender and sexuality was somewhat "complicated" in The Future.
JasperWB 7th May 2012, 10:00 AM edit delete reply
JasperWB
Yes I am aware of that but this had little to do with future concepts and more with stupid observations. I'm just forgetting I said anything. Though I suppose this could pique interest in the extraneous questions about back story behind Miwas mother now

There are plenty of masculine women, and plenty of feminine men. I don't really consider that to be part of the "complicated" sexuality of the future..

Sorry about my writing skills. I had keyed off on your comment about ""complicated" sexuality of the future..", but didn't make that clear.

I think the concept of transhuman somewhat describes the idea. I was thinking of all the nuts and bolts that would be available in The Future!

A Good Page. A multi-layered thing indeed. Like good literature, the words just disappear and the message plays out in your mind! Back out a level and consider the words and their order. Another level, the font, size and color. Another, the creativity. Another, what the author had for breakfast...
