This page ended up having a very loose, cartoony style. Hm.

Guess it was later that same day!

I wonder if I was wrong about ITs intentions too?

A lot of revealing psychology in this moment of stress!

The spider tank is still off-line and IT is using it as a support skeleton? Or not...
JasperWB 30th May 2012, 10:45 PM edit delete reply
JasperWB
The tank's not reactivating, is it?
cattservant 30th May 2012, 10:47 PM edit delete reply
cattservant
I don't think so, look closely at yesterday's last panel.
JasperWB 30th May 2012, 10:49 PM edit delete reply
JasperWB
Well it still is reactivating in a sense then. That crap could have been put in it for a reason, nothing has said yet that the sludge came along after the rank initially went down.
cattservant 30th May 2012, 10:52 PM edit delete reply
cattservant
You mean that the tank's systems could have been at least partly biological?
JasperWB 30th May 2012, 10:57 PM edit delete reply
JasperWB
Why not? Plus like has just been posted below, could be a defense mechanism.
cattservant 30th May 2012, 11:01 PM edit delete reply

Well considering how hard Hans grabbed it, IT is probably very unhappy right about now!
Meh.Aloe 31st May 2012, 3:22 AM edit delete reply
I think the tank *is* reactivating. I assumed from the last panel on the previous page that it was just falling apart, but now that I look closely at *this* page, it seems to be getting up...

Black arrow? Hmm, sounds like a booby trap left in the tank to kill any hostile forces attempting to recover it.

This is not going to end well, is no like these persons have anti-tank weapons. Maybe, if this were a rpg comic...

There's no anti-tank weapon, but there is an anti-bioweapon tank weapon.

Unfortunately, the bioweapon is wearing it...
Meh.Aloe 31st May 2012, 3:28 AM edit delete reply

There's no logical reason for Mary to go that direction. Plenty of illogical ones, but I can't see much good in her heading that way.
pancake 30th May 2012, 11:24 PM edit delete reply
i take it we're about to learn about the reasons for this being a post-apocalyptic story?

my guess: biological weapon/s that got out of control

The way Mary has been written theres no way she could run away, same thing with Miwa, they have different reason for automaticly running towards danger but they still react the same.

Off subject, does anyone else have the Lannister song stuck in their head ? :)

Miwa *is* running away! Though she has to, as she's getting Takeshi out of harm's way.

Nah, Takeshi's mom also has dark skin and hair. Miwa's running away because it's deeply ingrained since childhood - the "run the fuck away" drills.

She probably won't get far before stopping herself, though.
Meh.Aloe 31st May 2012, 3:16 AM edit delete reply
OoO Spoilerrr!

Now it's virtually guaranteed that *Miwa*, rather than Mary, will be the one to make a heroic sacrifice! It's even better! Her last request can be a kiss from Jim!

GUARANTEED, I say!

... I just assumed that Miwa was the one carrying Takeshi away because Miwa is awesome, I think. :(
Meh.Aloe 31st May 2012, 3:17 AM edit delete reply
"Run the fuck away" drills: 37% more effective than "duck and cover!"
Meh.Aloe 31st May 2012, 3:08 AM edit delete reply
Ah, the only robots not running away in terror are the town's official Big Guy and the refurbished military drone. :P This looks like bad news.

Siooo... Is "Black Arrow" some sort of bioweapon that makes monofilament wires either as its main means of attack, or as a defence? And the tank was full of it, and it grew while it was buried in the soil? Hmm, let's just hope it isn't the substance that gets into the soil and poisons everything, too.

Hypothesis: Mary dies horribly while heroically thwarting the bioweapon attack; since she and Jim are at the peak of happiness, and have just gotten Miwa to accept their relationship, this would be the dramatically optimal time for it to happen!

... But I doubt the story will be quite *that* dark, so she'll probably just get horribly hurt, and Jim will get to make her special robotic limbs! :D

"Black arrow" is the generic term for "weapon of mass destruction deployed locally! Run, although it probably won't help!"

... which is a mouthful to say, you see.
Meh.Aloe 31st May 2012, 3:13 AM edit delete reply
Running won't help? D:

Then I guess either the weapon does have something up its sleeve aside from omnislicey wires, with these being just a defence for something more insidious... or those wires were bundled up really, really tight, and are about to cover the entire town. O_o

Unless Mary stops them, of course!

I hope everyone's back-ups are up to date! D:

Well, the situation is a bit complex. There's a bunch of kinds of weapons of mass destruction. Nukes, sure. Also, spider tanks, orbital laser sats, biochemical bombs, viral clouds, XVT canisters.

Aside from nukes, they all are really fantastic for capturing a city more or less intact. The extensive robotic architecture of the modern city means you can basically move right in and take over... if you empty it out, first.
Meh.Aloe 31st May 2012, 3:24 AM edit delete reply
Ohhh, the tank *ITSELF* is the WMD in this case! I didn't figure this out at all. From the last page, I thought the tank was just full of bio-weapon goop, and was falling apart, releasing sharp, yucky death all over the town. Only now do I realise that the last panel of today's page shows the tank deploying its legs and getting up. O_o I guess the monofilament was a defence system for the tank itself, to discourage close-range attacks or tampering... >_<

It's probably foolish of me, but I find this slightly less scary than a cloud of intangible bio-death or indestructible pointy filaments engulfing the town!

Hee hee... well, I suppose you'll see. Lemme just say: you were more correct when you were scared.
Meh.Aloe 31st May 2012, 4:01 AM edit delete reply
Ahh! What can this deadly mystery be. D:

Perhaps cattservant was right in one of the first comments of the page, when they said, and I quote, "
The spider tank is still off-line and IT is using it as a support skeleton?"

Truly that is a very disturbing possibility. Especially since it raises the possibility of robo-zombies, shambling mechanical corpses acting as mere supports for... something else! D:

All I know is Mary doesn't die because waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the story it was explicitly stated that a song I thought fit their relationship perfectly was correct except for the end which involved a death.

However I am worried that if someone winds up going to protect everyone else, its probably going to be Miwa. It fits in a very sad way.
Meh.Aloe 31st May 2012, 3:34 AM edit delete reply
Agreement! A heroic sacrifice on the part of Miwa is both sad and storytellingly appropriate! And sad.

my logic. black arrow: they have a name for it, meaning it's not the first they've seen it. they reacted instantly to the name meaning they know it's meaning to heart. they took the children away meaning they know it's trouble. add it all up and I'm guessing they either faced one before or it's a known threat to this world.

It may be a general term for immediate biological threats. Short, evocative and easy to shout out loud. Especially anxiety producing for hostile dragons.
FluffyCloud 1st Jun 2012, 7:59 PM edit delete reply
Huh. In my head, my brain immediately supplied the meaning of "Broken Arrow" when people were running around yelling "Black Arrow" in the comic...

So when I read the comic and people were running away, I was getting the subtext "gosh, there's a lost/missing/unexploded MWD here."

Black Arrow, of course, merely being the name of a rocket the brits made and didn't loose any of.
