Gretel's Mom needed more than a refurbishment I'd say.

Was Jack's arm ripper beam a single shot unit? Seems like energy expenditure would be high. Lots of heat too I think.

Exposition Is Good!!!

So wait, technology has gone far enough to miniaturize the components of a laser and its power supply, which has to be close to a nuclear reactor or.. something, that they can be placed in an arm of a android?
view 6th Jun 2012, 3:21 AM edit delete reply
Chemical laser. Ever see "Real Genius"?

(It's not really a laser, though, so...)
Brex 6th Jun 2012, 3:28 AM edit delete reply
Of course! Chemical power source would make sense and is capable of being miniaturized, but for her size it might be a one shot deal... maybe two. It's not really a laser? How and why would it be classified as a beam weapon then?
cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 4:01 AM edit delete reply
Because it projects a focused destructive energetic force over a distance?

She had one in each arm. He had one in his cybernetic arm.

The weapon fires a powerful laser to clear a "tunnel" through the atmosphere, then fires a pulse of pseudomatter. The pseudomatter bonds with normal matter in a very destructive manner - think of it as "antimatter-lite".

Carol again! Yay more! And is it just me or so they sound like they are speaking in a bad English dub from another language. Like in kung fu movies. Or Speed Racer? Lol

What Robots do when nobody's watching...

Well, one is Italian, and one is Mexican.
JasperWB 5th Jun 2012, 10:43 PM edit delete reply
Ah. Well then it fits. I never imagined Esteban having the accent though. BTW, badass job on the biohazard symbol and surrounding text.
cattservant 5th Jun 2012, 10:46 PM edit delete reply
Oh yes, that's right! I didn't remember that bit. It sounds less stilted when you realize she* is referring to Jack and Esteban, and that Esteban is being modest about his role in the affair.

She does have a name in your notes somehere, please? If not I propose Amaterasu.

I've been mulling this for a while, so I've got to ask; was the war a result of technological singularity?
view 5th Jun 2012, 11:46 PM edit delete reply
The word "singularity" has no one meaning, so mu.
Greeb 6th Jun 2012, 12:08 AM edit delete reply
That's certainly an answer!
cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 12:15 AM edit delete reply
"mu"... you're so subtle!
G-Rock 5th Jun 2012, 11:16 PM edit delete reply
Everyone seems pretty reserved here. I see that either from post-ordeal mental exhaustion and focusing on the cleanup ahead, or something more tragic stripping their ability to celebrate. I'm hoping the former.
cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 12:10 AM edit delete reply
Good point!

Thank you for letting Esteban live another day. I would totally buy a poster of him wearing sunglasses.
Gigan 6th Jun 2012, 4:29 AM edit delete reply
Obviously Dyson has moved on to making bigger and better vacuums. That's probably part of the decontam, the XVT gets everywhere after all. Esteban looks like he needs a run through the detailer.

Ahh... Just to make sure: Gretel's mom herself is still okay, yes? It's only her body that got wrecked -- her mind is still intact, without any need for -that- kind of backup? D:
G-Rock 6th Jun 2012, 5:19 AM edit delete reply
Seems to be that way. Esteban isn't walking on eggshells, and I feel like the conversation would be more one-sided.
cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 10:58 AM edit delete reply
I think you are correct. Also the warrior types would have real-time off site redundancy capacity, especially when they are in combat mode.

Or, if you get knocked down, you get backup!!!
view 6th Jun 2012, 12:43 PM edit delete reply
Such a live backup still isn't possible. She simply survived, but her body was cut up, so they stuck her in another one.
cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 2:23 PM edit delete reply
Does She have a name please?
Guest 6th Jun 2012, 6:18 PM edit delete reply
Amaterasu descending...
cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 6:25 PM edit delete reply
Well that experiment was less than successful.
AlfaFoxtail 6th Jun 2012, 8:37 PM edit delete reply
uhm...still would have like to know the back story behind the bio weapon. i mean don't get me wrong, i love these characters..but it fells like somethings missing in this had kids sex octopi and an awesome fight....baah maybe i'm just being retarded
cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 9:06 PM edit delete reply
Yes. What level of intelligence did it have? Was it actively hostile, or just defensive? Just how did it come to be hiding out in a derelict spider tank? Oh, and did they get it all or is there a scrap or two still out there slicing up nematodes!
