Ugh, this is such a stupid page to draw.

cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 9:53 PM edit delete reply
But it explains so much. Thank you!
Nightsky 6th Jun 2012, 9:55 PM edit delete reply
It explains a lot, but leaves a lot of questions, such as "TEXAS WAS MELTED?!"
view 6th Jun 2012, 9:56 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, if you reread Mary's flashback, you'll see they mention it.
cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 10:00 PM edit delete reply
Consider what Jim says (Page 205 panel 7) and (Page 206 panel 1).
Meh.Aloe 6th Jun 2012, 10:25 PM edit delete reply
So... so... I was wrong to feel sympathy for the bio-weapon infested spider-tank after all? D:

Is Jack being really callous about the octopus death right now, or did it somehow survive after all? (The "too much death" couuuld maybe be referring to overall environmental destruction...)

Jack's a lovable jerk, but it'd still be odd for him to be -this- cold if the landwalker did die, since that octopus seemed to be more or less an equal part of the community, from what little we've seen. >_>
view 6th Jun 2012, 10:31 PM edit delete reply
He's looking for a bright side. It's a defense measure.
cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 10:31 PM edit delete reply
That XVT round that Landwalker deflected ended up in the lake. There could be a lot more dead than one brave little octopus!*

*(If he really is. I'm still hoping for airtight compartments in his exo-suit.)
JasperWB 6th Jun 2012, 10:52 PM edit delete reply
I figure he just views octopi as the same as fish. Even with cleanup bacteria dumped in the area or whatever there was probably a lot of death underwater. But he seems like the kind of guy who would be like "Welcome to life. Animals die."
cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 11:04 PM edit delete reply
I'm sure the Octopuses got warning, but were they fast enough to clear the area? Everything happened in no more than five minutes! Probably less. More like three.
Meh.Aloe 6th Jun 2012, 11:18 PM edit delete reply
I think it'd be reeeally weird for a sympathetic character to think that way in this setting, though, since everyone in this town accepts as a given that there is such a thing as non-human intelligence deserving of rights and equality... If something is self-aware and smart enough to have a conversation with you, it's hard to imagine anyone in this town being uncaring about its death, even a generally cold and somewhat jerk-y, but still sympathetic, guy.
cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 11:26 PM edit delete reply
Well there is tomorrow's page to consider. We haven't accounted for Mary and Jim yet.
JasperWB 6th Jun 2012, 10:32 PM edit delete reply
This page. I approve of this page. Information and Carol. Lots of information, and lots of Carol! Dress shirts still be looking good on your women.

And damn. XVT must be nasty shit if they had to create such things to try and get rid of it. Makes me wonder how they ever stumbled upon it in the first place, but took so much longer to find anything useful to counter it.
cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 11:00 PM edit delete reply
The look on Carol's face in (panel 7) reminds me of how Elvis looked when he first found out about XVT. (Pages 93-97)
JasperWB 6th Jun 2012, 11:09 PM edit delete reply
Yeah. He ain't nothing but a Hound Dog and I Can't Help Falling in Love with Carol and the both of their facial expressions. I'd say they were related but they probably aren't.
cattservant 6th Jun 2012, 11:13 PM edit delete reply
It is a small isolated town.
Meh.Aloe 6th Jun 2012, 11:21 PM edit delete reply
Ahh, between these two and Takeshi, there's so much adorableness in this comic. :P

Man, I hope the story doesn't become too dark or heavy.

And I'm looking forward to the inevitable Miwa seduction. Mary is more likeable, but Miwa is a much more interesting and complex character.
G-Rock 7th Jun 2012, 2:48 AM edit delete reply
Miwa is just more vocal with her problems. Mary's seen some shit. The fact that it never comes up makes you wonder if she's overcome it thoroughly or if she's just burying it away. Just because someone is seemingly well-adjusted a majority of the time doesn't mean they aren't interesting. I'll admit though, it does seem like Miwa's been getting a more rigorous exposition, but maybe that's just because Mary's was more integrated into the story as a whole, as opposed to being all about her. Both of their dream sequences focused heavily on Jim, but Miwa's was definitely a lot more "this explains Miwa". I feel that actually makes her a bit simpler to understand. Love em both though, in different ways.

Undead H3r3tic
Panel 6 made me think the spider tank was just a big fancy Pac Man...
Meddy 7th Jun 2012, 4:56 AM edit delete reply
But Pac-Man doesn't grow, Snake does.
Guest 7th Jun 2012, 8:14 AM edit delete reply
Well, we did/do need some exposition, plus these are some nice subtle expressions. Not every page can be ROBOT RENDING ACTION.

Seems like you'd like that though...
AlfaFoxtail 7th Jun 2012, 11:13 AM edit delete reply
so that takes care of my previous request XD wow...that's a lot of information

I figured the octopus was fine? It's shown in the earlier pages that it mostly seemed to be manipulating the exosuit from below the dome on top, and the dome on top was what took the hit.

... right?
Meh.Aloe 7th Jun 2012, 2:16 PM edit delete reply
But the shell that hit the dome was contaminated with deadly, deadly XVT! Which we know from an extremely short snippet of an earlier conversation does poison water! D: Even if the octopus survived the original impact just fine, it may have been horribly melted by deadly cell-killing chemicals shortly after. :(
Sheela 7th Jun 2012, 2:39 PM edit delete reply
I'm hoping there will be a more consice explanation to the "too much death" line.

ie. who died, if any.
How did the surrouding area fare ?
How did the lake fare ?

Octopusses ?
cattservant 7th Jun 2012, 3:42 PM edit delete reply
The time factor is not favorable. It was probably no more than three minutes between "sqlich" and "plok"!
pancake 7th Jun 2012, 5:45 PM edit delete reply
which language was that, how is it pronounced, and how do you know how it is pronounced?
view 7th Jun 2012, 8:14 PM edit delete reply
It's just Chinese...
JasperWB 7th Jun 2012, 8:33 PM edit delete reply
Boy, use a non Romance or Germanic language round here and people lose it lol
cattservant 7th Jun 2012, 8:49 PM edit delete reply
It's the fear of missing any little bit of plot or background!

Inquiring minds and all that...
JasperWB 7th Jun 2012, 8:59 PM edit delete reply
It's explained right there?
cattservant 7th Jun 2012, 9:07 PM edit delete reply
It just 'sounds' more dramatic coming from a robot of samurai 'ancestry'.

想吃 in English is "want to eat" not "The eater"
Next time, consult the people who speak Chinese
rando 19th Jun 2018, 4:41 PM edit delete reply
ehhhhh, small mistranslations that become colloquial slang happens like that happen all the time in the real world. I wouldn't be surprised if "想吃" was translated to "the eater" in english.

Hell, it might not even be a translation, the chinese who invented it may have named it 想吃 but americans decided to call it the eater when they saw it.

What's even more interesting to me is the peak to world's geopolitics, is the US allies with China? Or is this just a thing they put their differences aside to solve?
