In which I clearly show the limits of my skill. Yuk.

Aww. We all have rough days. You won't drive any of us off though, we still support ya! The only trouble I even see here is the dialog kinda and that's always fixable! Hell I always am tweaking the text I write around here.

I must be missing something... I thought what happened at the lake was a localized disaster. What about melting the nearby wildlife was beneficial?
JasperWB 19th Jun 2012, 12:31 AM edit delete reply
Well the XVT stopped the slime bacteria. It had to be deployed to save everyone else. And I am pretty sure it was the only available thing which could do so. If the round hadn't bounced and gone into the lake (or been fired in the first place) there wouldn't have been a disaster like there was. The marine life wouldn't have died out like it did as far as I can tell.

And the slime, if left unchecked, would have wiped out the whole damn town and then some. Organic and inorganic matter alike. It was said it wiped out whole states when they were using it to take out XVT.
Phuji 19th Jun 2012, 12:53 AM edit delete reply
Ahh okay so... trying to make sense of the last few pages after going back to reread them.

The objective of the attack on the Tank (controlled by the Slime) was to neutralize it's movement (removing the leg) so that they could blast it and rupture the canister of XVT loaded inside it in order to kill the Slime. The slime jettisoned the canister after it had ruptured.
The canister had leaked enough XVT inside the tank to kill the Slime but still had enough in it when it was fired to have caused the lake disaster as a sort of side-effect.
Lose-Lose situation but in this case the XVT destroying the lake and local wildlife is better than the Slime controlled tank being on the loose wreaking havoc.

Am I correct on my understanding now?

Uhhhhh. Yes I think so. As far as I know not being the author, I do believe you hit the nail on the head. Or at least reached the same conclusion I did!

To get a perfect score, however, you would have had to mention Carol's return and why it was awesome. I had to dock points from you there!
Phuji 19th Jun 2012, 1:15 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, Carol...

I'm more of a Lisa fan actually.

Now, if View put Lisa and Carol together...

"outrun", not take out. The "slime" was supposed to eat stuff faster than XVT could destroy it, unless the whole area was saturated.

If this bioweapon is really the reason Texas was melted, then the XVT didn't melt anyone who wouldn't be eaten soon anyway.

That's right, but I guess I should have made it clearer.

There is only so much you can do with in universe exposition before it becomes more hinderance than help. You did fine.
JasperWB 19th Jun 2012, 3:57 PM edit delete reply
Also don't be discouraged by my wording. I really did get the finer details of what happened I just no paraphrase words no good lots.
pancake 18th Jun 2012, 10:47 PM edit delete reply
wait.. so the stuff that happened in the last 2 pages really took place? i should probably go re-read it then...
pancake 18th Jun 2012, 10:53 PM edit delete reply
so Miwa really did just make light of Mary's friends dying? that is a traumatic event, is it not? Miwa went beyond insensitive, she went full on abusive there.

Miwa really doesn't care much about Mary, and doesn't give a flip about octopuses. She did it for Jim.
pancake 18th Jun 2012, 11:43 PM edit delete reply
sorry i'm slow, it was so out of character from Miwa i just assumed this was a dream sequence or something.
view 18th Jun 2012, 11:48 PM edit delete reply
Out of character? Maaaaan, I think you and I have very different ideas of who Miwa is.
Phuji 19th Jun 2012, 12:27 AM edit delete reply
Yep. There was never any illusion of it was being a dream where Miwa was being brutally honest with Mary.
As far as Miwa is concerned there are 2 things in the world that matter. Jim, and everything else.
Dead Octopi and other people's feelings are in the "everything else" category.
Valatar 19th Jun 2012, 7:12 AM edit delete reply
Miwa saw a problem, i.e. everyone being crippled by grief and/or guilt. She also saw a solution to get people moving in a productive direction instead of moping. She then enacted that solution. She made the play that got the results, nothing wrong with that.

I see nothing worng woth the art, you suceeded in showing Mary about to have a major meltdown about Jim.
AlfaFoxtail 19th Jun 2012, 12:12 PM edit delete reply
statement, you're always challenging yourself drawing wise and i gotta say that i love it!
elfolampo 19th Jun 2012, 4:13 PM edit delete reply
I wouldn't really say about Jim, I mean, Jim blames himself, but Mary doesn't blame Jim all that much, otherwise she wouldn't have him of all people console her, or she wouldn't try to console him in this page.
On another note, the tank was so close to the water that one way or another, the XVT would have hit it anyway. That, and or the slime would have eaten the octopuses anyway.

I wonder, however, what were Jim's reasons for leaving the canister alone. "We might find a dormant bioweapon inside this tank and we might need to rupture it" doesn't seem to be one.

If you're terrified of something, there's loads of excuses you come up with to avoid dealing with it.

I wonder if the military is going to find out what happened in the little town ?
cattservant 19th Jun 2012, 5:29 PM edit delete reply
No doubt I'm being naive, but I still think that Mr. Slime Tendrils could have been befriended and possibly domesticated if a little less ignorance and reactivity had be employed.

Not to get completely off-topic, but was it ever explicitly established what fuel source the robots in this story use? Organic? Nuclear? Piezoelectric? Any of the above, depending on the particular individual's original purpose?

I wanted to ask before I forgot to again.
